  1. I'm really glad this website exists. I had IPL treatment for sundamage under my eyes and it burned my cornea. The spa tech was super-nice and was very concerned with the safety and comfort of my skin, but I kept saying, "It's just so bright." After the session my reaction was similar to walking out of a dark house to a bright, sunny day. I threw my hand up to shield my eyes from what I thought was a light in my face. There was no light. It was a dim room. My vision blurred and I was very light sensitive. It didn't really hurt. It was like I had a dirty contact.

I went to the eye doctor a week after. It's healing and I'll be fine, but the drops cost $200 plus the cost of the doctor appointments. I'm trying to gather info because the spa's position is that "it's not possible" that the machine caused eye damage. I just want them to pay me back for my (relatively minor) medical expenses, but I'm afraid it will be a fight.

  2. This is absolutely possible and each device requires a specific type of eye protection in order to offer full protection from eye damage.

Were you give eye protection of any sort. Our website has a section called "Resources" it is a 'public' forum and can be read without joining. There are several topics on eye damage caused by cosmetic laser/light devices. You may also join so that you can read all areas of the forum. I'm sorry you're going through this.

  3. I was told by the top derm, a UCLA med school grad, in my affluent CA community that IPL should be used to treat 2 dark spots on my face. I thought it was overkill but was told that the added benefit of IPL was the stimulation of collagen in the face which produces more youthful skin. Long story short, after the first treatment, choc chips appeared all over my once peaches and cream like skin, including the dark spots I sought treatment for. The 2 original spots did fall off but new dark spots remained. Top doc said that another treatment would remove the new spots. 1 year later I am left with saggier skin around my eyes and the plumpness on my cheekbones is almost gone. My face lost some of its fullness but it took a while for this to appear since at first my face was swollen from the laser treatment. After researching this, I have learned that Asian women use the same IPL lasers to make their faces less full since it melts away the fat! I have also seen advertisements for laser treatment of belly fat! Yet top doctors are not truthful about ALL of the effects of IPL. The nurses at the office who are "selling" IPL are also using fillers after IPL. Need I say more?

  4. Thank you for your post. The more people who step forward and expose this for what it is, it will help bring recognition that this is REAL! If you have not, please file an adverse event report with the FDA via their MAUDE database.

I hope you will join the forum as well.

  5. They all say it is not possible but IPL eye damage is. They say if you wear your goggles you are fine, that is NOT true. Most people with eye injuries from IPL had treatment too close to their eyes or didn't have goggles. I had treatment done to my jawline and the lady had me sitting up and I saw the bright light during the treatment. I have corneal nerve damage from that single treatment despite wearing goggles and despite it being as far down as my jawline, I may be the first case where it has happeend when treated from that distants but I want people to know IT IS POSSIBLE because it happeened to me and can happen to others. Don't use IPL at all, it is no worth it.
